Course Documents -> Week 2 -> Another Google Earth Exercise
This time we will try to discern transmission line infrastructure:
- Let's begin in Eugene and find the Ridgeline trail
and try to follow the treeless corridor for as far as you can.
Identify, in the worksheet what you think are the beginning
and ending coordinates of the power corridor and what
the overall length is.
- The Indiana-Ohio voltage line
- go to coordinates 41 53 10 -86 11 21 and notice
a big white electricity distribution center. Follow the
transmission corridor that goes to the NorthWest (and eventually
it will start going mostly West). Keep following it (notice
when it crosses a river) as far as you can until you eventually
get to where it Merges with a set of lines that go North South.
Enter in the Coordinates of that location, and determine the
overall distance from that point back to the starting point.

- Grand Coulee Dam
- Find the Dam - find the big distribution station a bit
southwest of the dam. (There are lots and lots of wires).
Now try to follow one of the main lines that goes southwest
and follow that to the first distribution station that you
find. Enter in the coordinates of that distribution station
and the distance from it to Grand Coulee Dam station.
