Biography:
Professor Bothun earned a B.S. and Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Washington. He taught at the University of Washington, California Institute of Technology, and The University of Michigan prior to joining the Physics Department at the University of Oregon in 1990. In addition to teaching, Dr. Bothun serves as the Director of the University's Pine Mountain Observatory. Professor Bothun's research interests are wide ranging and varied, including:
  • Galaxy Formation and Evolution
  • Dwarf Galaxies
  • Galaxies of Low Surface Brightness
  • Large Scale Structure
  • Clusters of Galaxies
  • Observational Cosmology
  • Applications of Instructional Technology
  • Climate Change Indicators
  • Sustainable Energy Implementation and Policy
