Course Documents -> Week 7 -> Mathematics

Its important to realize that by about 1750, all the mathematics that we would need to fully support the emerging new fields of engineering, chemistry, geology, botany/biology/zoology, physiology, etc have been fully developed.

Much of this work is due to Leonard Euler, who gave us partial derivatives and fluid dynamics as well as the concept of mathematical functions.

Any new math developed beyond this point, while interesting, is like art and doesn't really have any real world applications.
